Globus/T24 newbie question (DataBasic ? editor) was created by t25
Hi all,
First, sorry if any of my questions would occur to you as inapplicable for this forum. Im totally Globus/T24 novice. As far, I found that there is small amount of information about any of T24 topics on the internet.
I found this forum. It looks very good and I thought this is the place to start for me :)
There are a couple of subroutines written by someone else. Im supposed to understand it and draw some alghoritm from it to be applied in another solution. The language those routines are written in is called DataBASIC (is that right name?).
While the whole idea of Globus/T24 sounds good and innovative this language, to be honest, looks horrible (comparing to Java, C, ...).
There is plenty of "GOSUB"'s that remainds me of GOTO: and makes me mad!
My question is: Is there any editor (apart from Notepad++) that makes this more readible and allows for variable declaration search? Any Netbeans, Eclipse plugin would be very welcome.
best regards,
Pawel

Hi pawel,
First up, welcome to the T24 world. As you learn more, m sure u'll find it even more interesting.
To start with, the language is called InfoBasic, or Pick Basic. You can use some editors where u can directly connect to the server and update ur script, i prefer "Ultra Edit."
The function GOSUB has an important usage, if used properly. And yes, its often used basically to simplify longer codes.
Hope this answers to ur query.
Prabal.

Hi Prabal.
Thank you very much. I've just downloaded UltraEdit Trial and I am going to play with it for awhile. I noticed that you must extra download Pick Basic plug-in for colouring. I've downloaded it but now I am a little bit confused. There is no clear instruction on UltraEdit web site on how to enable this. I'll play with it now but meanhwile can you send me some tip about this?
regards,
Pawel

Ok, got it.
But it is merely a coloring... I guess I must take it line by line, or write my own editor :)

Pawel
