- Installation and client support ... You won't have a separated client software for each of your user.
- User Interfaces improvements. for example: Composite Screen (Role Based Home Pages),
- New technology (this depends of your point of view)
- Integration with Java application through Application Server
Disadvantages
- You have to add new expertise into IT (java skills)
- In a web application the client processing will be done into application server, in other words you need a new physical server or more infraestructure resources.
- Some "customization" that you did for desktop won't work on Browser.

to add to the above, here are some advantages of browser over desktop:
-Updates are seamless
-no legacy software(desktop 1.2, 1,3etc)
-Available anywhere, anytime
-platform independent
-low maintenance cost
