Data Migration: Tech or Business

With the use of the DM.TOOL for data migration, would the job duty of Data Migration be consider a Technical or a Business job ?
Many centuries ago, the data migration person use to need to write routines to either modify the customers data in order to get the data into T24 or need to format the OFS statements
With the release of the DM.TOOL along with the supporting Data Migration Tables, the pre definition of data migration required fields (Data Migration Definitions), has Data migration become a business function instead of tech. Example
1. Train the client on the use of the DM.TOOL
2. Explain the business requirements of the required T24 data fields and formatting
3. Map the T24 data fields to the client data fields
4. Data Migration scheduler to auto run DM jobs and also email out error reports, count of records loaded (or not loaded)

The dm person needs more of a business background than a tech background
any comments ?

Yes.Migration team needs both technical and Business knowledge.Mapping involves deep knowledge of the T24 core,where one can answer any queries thrown at.

Once mapping is over , its technical to load the data using the tool

in addition to the above answer any error will occur while migration the preson whose responsible of migration must determine the reason of this error

The Final Data that needs to be uploaded into T24 has to be clearly studied by the business consultant and cleansed before a go ahead is given to upload. The Installation , Setup and Configuration of the DM Tool is usually done by a Technical consultant.

DM tool will blindly upload all the data into the system via a DM Service once the Tool is properly configured and the service is started. This configuration of the DM Tool may include things like setting up the Versions, Services, Log files , IN directories, putting all the data in the correct positions etc.

Once the data is uploaded into T24. Checking for the correctness of the upload. Checking Account reports, Balance reports etc that has financial implication can be the responsibility of the business consultant.

If you are a Techno Functional consultant and have the knowledge and the skills you can do both. Its as Simple as that !
